Awesome game with warm fuzzy flash backs.

There are games in every console that define the generation. R-Type is one of those games. While I play I cannot help but think of the hours my girlfriend and I would spend pouring into this game, just to 1-Up the other. When it comes to side scroller shooters, R-Type is, and always will be, the king.

I wish I could switch the buttons to the left side of the screen so I could use the right for movement and remove my thumb from near or on the ship to see projectiles better.

Not only one of the best shmups of all time but one of the very best video games of all time. R-Type is 10/10. Please port Gradius.

This game captures the fun and excitement of running home and playing the game on my home system after middle school.

When attempting to resize the virtual controls with the slider the controls disappear entirely. The default size of the controls are too large to use well. R-Type II does not have this problem. I am attempting to play this on an iPad Mini with Retina Display.

Love this game! Played it as a Kid and this is just as great.

I love the resurgence of old school games for iOS. This is frantic shooter fun!

i bought this game because i own a Logitech powershell, but the controls are horrible. the spaceship cant move half as fast with the controller as by touchscreen, and gaming with touchscreen is no fun for me. not recommended with powershell

I am so glad that R-Type finally made it to the iPad. This was my favorite game of all when growing up and have been trying to find it for the newer system. My wait is done and I am overjoyed. I feel like a child opening presents on Christmas Day.

Want to make it better? Only improve response time when using virtual controller (theres 1/4 second lag which means death for this game). Other than that, my favorite childhood shooter is still king.

This game is outstanding. It manages to reconcile the space-time continuum. Meaning, while playing on an Apple product, I am transported back in time a quarter century (see title and nickname above). Only bit of constructive criticism (via my friend James) - the app designers should enable users to play the game on mute with music otherwise (Spotify et al) with the next update.

Great version of a classic shooter!

I am playing on an iPhone 5S running iOS 8.4.1. This phone can handle the Infinity Blade games, so one would think it could handle R-Type. Apparently not? I have hard reset my phone, closed all background apps, and even turned on the "reduce motion" feature, but there is still intermittent slowdown that makes the game unplayable.

Anyone else having lag issues with the new OS? I still love the game, but its almost unplayable with the lag.
